Exchange Policy

Jewellery bought from HSJ can be exchanged at our stores on the terms below. We exchange; we do not give refunds.

Exchange soon after purchase

At the full value on your tax invoice, within the time shown:

· The piece must be unused and in its original, saleable condition.
· Please bring the original tax invoice and certificate.
· Made-to-order and customised pieces cannot be exchanged.
· A piece can be exchanged only once: a piece received in exchange cannot be exchanged again.
· The exchange value is the value on the tax invoice, whatever the gold or diamond rate on the day of exchange.
· Any discount given at the time of sale is reversed, and a scheme discount may no longer be available if its period has ended.
· Diamond jewellery can be exchanged only for diamond jewellery.
· No refund is given under any circumstances.

Exchange after 7 days

After 7 days, a piece is valued at the rate of the day of exchange:

· Coins — standard weight × the day’s gold rate.
· Gold jewellery, plain or studded, and diamond jewellery — net gold weight × the day’s gold rate.
· Diamonds and polki — 100% of their value on the day.
· Other studded stones — 85% of their value on the day.
· Solitaires — 95% of their market value on the day.
· Platinum — net weight × 95% of the day’s rate.
· Silver — weight × 92.5% of the day’s rate.

The discount given at the time of sale is deducted from this value. Semi-precious stones are not taken back. Precious stones are checked first, and are not taken back if they are not in usable condition. Solitaires can be exchanged only for solitaire or diamond jewellery.

Gold bought from other jewellers

We take gold coins and gold jewellery bought elsewhere in exchange, at net weight × the day’s gold rate. Hallmarked gold is taken with no deduction. Platinum is taken at net weight × 95% of the day’s rate. We do not take diamond, solitaire or silver jewellery bought from other jewellers.

· Each piece is tested for purity, and you are told its approximate value before anything is done.
· It is melted only with your approval, and in your presence.
· The purity is as determined by our testing.
· The weight is taken after stones and lac are removed and the piece is melted. Stone and polki studded pieces are valued separately; stones are not set again once removed, and we cannot be responsible for any breakage while they are removed.
· Gold from any jeweller other than HSJ is taken in exchange only: no money is paid for it in any form.

Good to know

· Every piece is checked for weight and purity at the time of exchange.
· For studded gold, diamond and solitaire pieces, the stones are verified as well, which can take 4 to 5 working days.
